Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ½ cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly grease and flour a 12-inch round pizza pan or cake pan.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips and any optional nuts.
  7. Press the cookie dough evenly into the prepared pan.
  8. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the center is set but still slightly soft.
  9. Let the cookie cake cool completely in the pan on a wire rack before decorating.
  10. Decorate with your favorite frosting or simply dust with powdered sugar before slicing and serving this chocolate chip dessert.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use half semi-sweet and half milk chocolate chips.
  • If you want a thicker cake, use a 10-inch pan instead of a 12-inch pan, and increase the baking time by 5 to 7 minutes.
  • This giant cookie cake is excellent served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
