Ingredients
Scale
2 cups crisp apple, diced (such as Honeycrisp or Fuji)
1 cup celery, chopped
1 cup red or green grapes, halved
1 cup walnuts, toasted and roughly chopped
1/2 cup mayonnaise
2 tablespoons plain yogurt or sour cream
1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
Pinch of salt
Pinch of black pepper
4 large lettuce leaves (for serving)
Instructions
Toast the walnuts in a dry skillet over medium heat for 5 to 7 minutes until fragrant. Let them cool completely.
In a large bowl, combine the diced apple, chopped celery, and halved grapes.
In a small bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, yogurt or sour cream, and lemon juice until smooth.
Pour the dressing over the apple, celery, and grape mixture. Toss gently to coat everything evenly.
Fold in the toasted, chopped walnuts. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Chill the salad for at least 15 minutes before serving.
To serve, place one large lettuce leaf on each plate and spoon the Waldorf salad onto the lettuce bed.
Notes
Use a crisp, slightly sweet apple variety for the best texture.
The lemon juice helps keep the apples from browning.
For a richer flavor, you can substitute all the mayonnaise for Greek yogurt.
Toast the walnuts to bring out their flavor; do not skip this step.
