Make this legendary Texas Trash Pie, a simple, baked dessert that perfectly balances sweet chocolate and caramel with salty pretzels and pecans. It is quick to prepare and always a crowd-pleaser for any gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (9-inch) frozen deep-dish pie crust
  • 1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup soft caramel bits or chips
  • 1 cup crushed pretzels
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 cup shredded sweetened coconut
  • 1/4 cup melted butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Place the frozen pie crust on a baking sheet.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the sweetened condensed milk, chocolate chips, caramel bits, crushed pretzels, pecans, coconut, and melted butter. Mix these ingredients until they are evenly distributed.
  3. Pour the entire mixture into the unbaked frozen pie crust. Spread the filling evenly.
  4. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes, or until the filling is set and the edges are lightly golden brown.
  5. Remove the pie from the oven and let it cool completely on a wire rack before slicing. Cooling allows the gooey filling to set properly.
  6. Slice and serve this indulgent, sweet and salty treat.

Notes

  • You can substitute graham cracker crumbs for some of the pretzels if you prefer a slightly less salty base.
  • For the best texture, let the pie cool for at least two hours before cutting. The filling will be very soft right out of the oven.
  • This pie is excellent served slightly warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
