Ingredients
Scale
4 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and crushed
4 cups granulated sugar
1 package (1.75 oz) powdered fruit pectin (like Sure-Jell)
Instructions
Prepare your freezer containers. You need clean, freezer-safe jars or containers with lids.
In a large bowl, mix the crushed strawberries and the powdered pectin together. Stir until the pectin is fully incorporated into the fruit.
Let this mixture sit for 5 minutes.
Add the sugar to the strawberry mixture. Stir well until the sugar is completely dissolved. This stirring process is important for the jam to set properly.
Let the jam mixture stand for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. You will notice the mixture thickening during this time.
Spoon the jam into your prepared freezer containers, leaving about 1/2 inch of headspace at the top of each container.
Wipe the rims clean, seal the containers tightly, and let them cool on the counter for about an hour.
Place the containers in the freezer. The jam is ready to eat once frozen solid, usually after 24 hours.
Once frozen, this strawberry freezer jam keeps well for up to one year. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator before serving.
Notes
You can use fresh or frozen strawberries for this recipe. If using frozen, thaw them completely and drain off any excess liquid before crushing.
This recipe makes a large batch; divide it among smaller containers if you plan to use some immediately (thawed jam lasts about 3 weeks in the refrigerator).
For a lower sugar option, look for low-sugar pectin varieties, but follow the package directions specifically for those products.
