Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup fresh lime juice
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 12 small corn or flour tortillas
  • For the Spicy Crema:
  • 1/2 cup sour cream or plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce (adjust to your heat preference)
  • Pinch of salt
  • For Serving:
  • 1 cup shredded cabbage slaw mix
  • 1/4 cup chopped white onion
  • Lime wedges

Instructions

  1. Prepare the shrimp seasoning: In a medium bowl, toss the shrimp with olive oil, chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper until coated.
  2. Marinate the shrimp: Add the 1/4 cup of lime juice and chopped cilantro to the shrimp mixture. Toss gently. Let the shrimp marinate for 10 minutes while you prepare the crema.
  3. Make the spicy crema: In a small bowl, whisk together the sour cream (or yogurt), 1 tablespoon lime juice, hot sauce, and a pinch of salt until smooth. Set aside.
  4. Cook the shrimp: Heat a grill pan or outdoor grill to medium-high heat. Place the shrimp on the hot surface in a single layer. Grill for 2 to 3 minutes per side, until pink and cooked through. Do not overcook.
  5. Warm the tortillas: Warm the tortillas according to package directions, either directly over a low gas flame, in a dry skillet, or wrapped in a damp paper towel in the microwave.
  6. Assemble the tacos: Place a portion of the grilled shrimp onto each warm tortilla. Top with shredded cabbage slaw, chopped white onion, and a drizzle of the spicy crema.
  7. Serve immediately with lime wedges on the side.

Notes

  • For a healthier option, use corn tortillas and plain Greek yogurt in the crema.
  • You can prepare the shrimp seasoning mix ahead of time and store it in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours before adding the shrimp and lime juice.
  • If you prefer a milder sauce, substitute the hot sauce with a dash of mild salsa.
