  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup M&M’s Holiday Baking Candies
  • 1/2 cup white chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides for easy removal. Lightly grease the paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy. This takes about 3 minutes with an electric mixer.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined. Do not overmix the dough.
  6. Gently fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips, M&M’s, and white chocolate chips, if using.
  7. Press the cookie bar dough evenly into the prepared 9×13 inch pan.
  8. Bake for 22 to 26 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden brown and the center is set but still looks slightly soft. For the chewiest bars, err on the side of slightly underbaking.
  9. Let the bars cool completely in the pan on a wire rack before lifting them out using the parchment paper overhang.
  10. Once cool, cut into squares. These are the best Christmas cookie bars when served slightly warm or at room temperature.
