Make this easy cheeseburger pasta skillet for a quick, comforting meal. This one-pot dish combines seasoned ground beef, tender pasta, and melted cheese for a family-friendly dinner ready in under 30 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 (14.5 ounce) can diced tomatoes, undrained
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
  • 1 teaspoon ketchup
  • 8 ounces dry elbow macaroni or rotini pasta
  • 1 cup heavy cream or half-and-half
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
  • Optional toppings: Diced pickles, chopped green onions

Instructions

  1. Brown the ground beef in a large, deep skillet or Dutch oven over medium heat. Drain off any excess grease.
  2. Add the chopped onion to the skillet with the beef and cook until softened, about 4 minutes.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  4. Pour in the diced tomatoes (with their juice), beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, and ketchup. Stir to combine.
  5. Bring the mixture to a boil. Add the dry pasta to the skillet.
  6. Reduce the heat to medium-low, cover the skillet, and simmer for 10 to 12 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent the pasta from sticking to the bottom. Cook until the pasta is tender and most of the liquid is absorbed.
  7. Remove the skillet from the heat. Stir in the heavy cream and both types of shredded cheese until the sauce is smooth and creamy.
  8. Taste the pasta and adjust salt and pepper if needed.
  9. Serve the cheeseburger pasta immediately with your choice of toppings, like diced pickles or green onions.

Notes

  • For a bacon cheeseburger pasta variation, cook 4 slices of crumbled bacon with the ground beef in step 1.
  • If the sauce seems too thick after cooking, add a splash of milk or extra broth until you reach your desired consistency.
  • This recipe is a great Hamburger Helper copycat recipe made from scratch.
